Could the West Virginia Mountaineers expand Kendrick Family Ballpark?

West Virginia packed their stadium during the NCAA Baseball Tournament this spring, leading some to propose that more seating should be installed.

Fan interest is at an all-time high surrounding the West Virginia baseball program – and with that comes more seats being filled at Kendrick Family Ballpark.

The Mountaineers have been trending upward in recent seasons on the diamond, qualifying for four consecutive NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the Super Region Round in three consecutive years, and earning their first-ever bid the College World Series this past season.

That run to Omaha included the Mountaineers getting the opportunity to host an NCAA Regional for the first time since 2019, and an NCAA Super Regional for the first time ever. And WVU baseball fans turned out in droves over two consecutive weekends.

The West Virginia faithful packed the stadium as well as the free seating available on the hillside overlooking the stadium which affectionately became known as "Randy's Ridge" in honor of former head coach Randy Mazey. And with those images fresh in the minds of every fan, some are in favor of adding seating to the stadium – including head coach Steve Sabins. But is it something WVU could do?

Wren Baker discloses approach to potential Kendrick Family Ballpark expansion for WVU baseball

In a recent appearance on the 3 Guys Before The Game podcast, West Virginia's athletic director Wren Baker was asked about potential expansion plans for the stadium. And he does plan on at least exploring the feasibility of doing so.

“We’re going to hire an architect and look at everything very intentionally," Baker said. "Where can we potentially expand capacity? Where can we potentially grow premium?
