Flipping yet another recruit, WVU football has landed another commitment for their ever-expanding 2026 recruiting class.

The latest high school recruit to flip their commitment from another school to WVU comes from class of 2026 athlete Aidan Woods. Hailing from Abingdon, Virginia, the Virginia native is a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports. Woods announced his commitment to head coach Rich Rodriguez and the Mountaineers on Monday.

Woods committed to the UNC Tar Heels in June 2024 before recently flipping his commitment to the Mountaineers. With the decision giving up a chance to play for a future NFL Hall of Fame coach at UNC, Bill Belichick, who is one of nine semifinalists for the 2026 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Playing tight end in high school, Woods has been recruited by WVU to transition to the offensive tackle position. Bringing an athlete who has experience with playing a skill position could give Woods an advantage on the edge of the offensive line, if he can develop some fundamental skills at the offensive tackle position. His athleticism and ability to move in space could help Woods get to and secure blocks on the edge in space, but his 6-foot-6, 255-pound frame could make for a massive lineman in the right strength system.

The three-star recruit labeled as an athlete has received nine scholarship offers, according to 247Sports. Other than UNC, Virginia Tech, Liberty, Syracuse, and Wake Forest were part of the nine schools to offer Woods.

WVU is on a roll, both getting commitments from high school players as well as convincing formerly committed players to flip their commitment. Hopefully, that momentum can help land a couple of big fish that WVU is trying to reel in.
