After news earlier in December indicated he'd be kept on staff, Blaine Stewart has officially been announced to Rich Rodriguez's staff for WVU football by the program. Stewart will move from tight ends coach to inside receivers coach.
"I'm glad to have Blaine as a member of our coaching staff," Rodriguez said. "I had the privilege of working with his father, Bill, during my tenure here. I was able to watch Blaine grow up alongside my children. He is developing into a fine coach and recruiter and is an outstanding young man. He has a lot of the same qualities as his dad, and I look forward to his contributions to our program."
As Rodriguez noted, Stewart is the son of Rodriguez's former assistant and former WVU Head Coach Bill Stewart. The younger Stewart was a gridiron star at Morgantown High School and played collegiately in-state under Rodriguez's Jacksonville State assistant Pat Kirkland at Division 2 program Charleston.
He has spent the past two seasons coaching tight ends for the Mountaineers on Neal Brown's staff, and helped guide Kole Taylor to back-to-back All-Big 12 seasons. He has also coached at the NFL level with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an assistant receivers coach.
