Former WVU football star Beanie Bishop Jr. isn't quite leaving the city of Pittsburgh yet -- even if you don't see him suited up in black-and-gold on Sundays this fall.
After a standout rookie season in 2024 and a respectable preseason effort this past month, fans of both the Steelers and the Mountaineers were surprised to see the organization waive his contract on Tuesday as a part of the final round of preseason roster cuts. But less than 24 hours after the announcement was made, the Steelers decided to re-sign Bishop to the practice squad after he cleared waivers, according to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero.

Bishop wasn't able to beat out Steelers newcomer and a veteran former first-round draft pick in Jalen Ramsey for the spot at nickel cornerback on the final 53-man roster, but it's clear to see why the Steelers would like to keep the rising star around on the practice sqaud once he cleared waivers.
Bishop ended up as the team's starting nickel cornerback last season due to a lack of depth at the position and made appearances in all 17 games for Pittsburgh -- he finished the season with 45 tackles, seven pass deflections, and four interceptions and was named NFL Rookie of the Month in October 2024.
WVU fans will continue to hope that Bishop can claw his way back onto the main roster for the Steelers, but his rookie season proved the Bishop has a role to play at the professional level and it's likely this isn't the last we've seen of Bishop suiting up on Sundays for an NFL team. For now, he can cherish the fact that he's still got a spot in the league, even if on a practice roster.
