The NFL draft passed the West Virginia Mountaineers by, but that doesn't mean some for WVU stars won't end up in the league. And after the initial round of WVU football stars landing offseason opportunities to make an NFL roster, another WVU defender has added his name to that list.

On Monday night, the news broke that the West Virginia defensive back Kekoura Tarnue would be joining the Denver Broncos for their rookie mini-camp.

Kekoura Tarnue to earn NFL opportunity with Denver Broncos

Tarnue will attempt to make the jump to the NFL after a two-year stint in Morgantown to close out his collegiate career. Tarnue transferred to the Mountaineers ahead of the 2024 season from Jacksonville State, playing out what he thought was his final collegiate season with West Virginia.

But with court cases and waivers paving the way for another year, Tarnue returned to WVU for one more season under Rich Rodriguez and Zac Alley (whom he previously played under at Jacksonville State). During his two seasons with the Mountaineers, Tarnue racked up 75 tackles (7 tackles for loss), three pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.

At WVU's Pro Day earlier this spring, Tarnue put up impressive numbers, running a 4.43 40-yards dash, a 4.25 second 20-yard shuttle, and 7.08 second three-cone drill. He also registered a 37.5-inch vertical jump, and a 10.5-inch broad jump.

Tarnue becomes the sixth West Virginia player to earn an NFL shot this offseason, joining Reid Carrico, Michael Coats Jr., Eddie Vesterinen, Jeff Weimer, and Chase Wilson.
