New WVU basketball head coach Ross Hodge has so far done a great job in recruiting talent to Morgantown for the 2025-26 season and beyond.

The latest basketball commitment for the Mountaineers comes from 2026 3-star point guard Kingston Whitty. Whitty is ranked as the 24th best point guard in the class of 2026 according to 247Sports

Whitty is a 6’2”, 165-pound point guard from Arden, North Carolina. The point guard announced his commitment on Tuesday. Whitty chose WVU over other interested schools like Tennessee, Georgia Southern, Chattanooga, Liberty, and Marshall. In total, Whitty received 30 scholarship offers.

The three-star recruit should get immediate playing time once he is enrolled at WVU. Whitty is a three-level scorer who can score at the basket, in the midrange, and has a solid shot from the three-point line. The point guard is also not afraid of contact at the rim, serving as a contact absorber when attacking the basket. In addition to his scoring presence, the North Carolina native also has a great ability to find open shots for his teammates, even throwing on-target lobs to his teammates above the rim.

Whitty plays in the offseason for Pro One Basketball, a national travel program based in Alabama. Danny Servick, who serves as the Director for Pro One, said that Whitty "just moves different."

"He's a willing passer and has good vision. He's a legit 6-foot-2," Servick said. [He] can score the basketball and score at an incredibly efficient clip."

Grabbing a point guard in the class of 2026 will help Hodge keep some continuity in his program for several years, given the Arden, North Carolina, native does not exit the program early. Even if Whitty is in Morgantown for only a season, it will be a great addition to add a capable ball distributor on the bench behind Amir Jenkins, the true freshman point guard who reclassified to join the WVU program a year early.

WVU basketball fans should remember Whitty’s name for the 2026-27 season, as Whitty should be a capable scorer off the bench, or maybe a starter if things go his way.

Whitty will join 6’10” center Aliou Dioum in the Class of 2026, a 4-star recruit and Scottsdale, Arizona, native who committed to the Mountaineers last month. The Mountaineers will also be hosting Dioum's teammate and 5-star 2026 prospect Miles Sadler for a visit later in October.
