1982, 41-27 WVU win

Almost as thrilling as the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma was the road victory to jumpstart the 1982 season. The Mountaineers were unranked heading to No. 9 Oklahoma. It should have been an easy win for the Sooners, but the WVU football team had other ideas.

Considered the seventh-best game in WVU football history by HailWV.com, Jeff Hostetler led the way to pull off the upset. The quarterback threw for 239 passing yards on 17 passes with a long toss of 52 yards. Darrell Miller, Curlin Beck, Mark Raugh and Wayne Brown all caught scoring passes.

West Virginia won its first three games of the year that season and went on to obtain a 9-3 record. The season ended with a loss against Florida State in the Gator Bowl.
