Not even 24 hours after the Gold-Blue spring game, the WVU football program added a talented young quarterback to their 2017 recruiting class.

David Isreal totaled 1,841 passing yards and 13 touchdowns while leading his team to a 7-5 record this past season. Isreal’s final game at Butler Community College didn’t end the way he’d hoped, but it did showcase his talents in a special way. The freshman threw for two touchdowns, ran for one and was on the receiving end of another after a trick play.

Can you say versatility? If Isreal does one thing when he arrives in Morgantown, it should be to become best friends with two players: quarterback Will Grier and quarterback-turned-wide receiver David Sills V.

Sills was in the same position when he stepped foot on campus two years ago, having to sit behind the starter and wait, but quickly showcased his talents at wide receiver to get on the field.

The 6’1″, 175 lbs. gunslinging Isreal didn’t have much interest from colleges coming out of high school, drawing attention and a scholarship from only Austin Peay. Even after his fine freshman season, only WVU and Memphis were interested.

Coach Dana Holgorsen and Jake Spavital saw something in Isreal during his lone season with the Grizzlies, though and invited him to their spring game Saturday.

Holgorsen’s discussed all offseason about adding JuCo talent later in the recruiting cycle – well, here we are! From JuCo players to graduate-transfers – they’re all welcome in Morgantown. WVU added former Syracuse player Corey Winfield back in February.

Defensive coordinator Tony Gibson mentioned yesterday after the spring game how he’ll be out on the recruiting trail to finsish assembling the 2017 roster; getting Isreal today is simply a bonus.
