WVU football played their annual Gold-Blue spring game Saturday and a number of former Mountaineers made an appearance.

There’s a lot of hype around West Virginia football right now. They’re coming off their first 10-win season since joining the Big 12. Dana Holgorsen and Tony Gibson were rewarded for those efforts with new contracts after the season. There’s also a number of Mountaineers currently in the NFL that came back to Milan Puskar Stadium to watch their former team. Here’s a list of the Holgorsen-drafted players from WVU.

If you watched the broadcast, you saw and heard from a handful of these guys, including Geno Smith, Kevin White and KJ Dillon. Many more were in attendance and proudly shared it via social media.

These are all former Mountaineer greats and some are current NFL players. That’s huge for a college program. The Miami Hurricanes were notorious for having their former players return to the sidelines and instill a winning mentality while pushing those current players. Seeing guys like Smith, Wendell Smallwood and White return put a huge smile on Dana Holgorsen’s face too. He joked about, “Some of the NFL guys on the side would love to get out there, maybe they will.” and get out there they did.

Kevin White and Shelton Gibson lined up for one snap late in the scrimmage at receiver and Geno Smith found a streaking Gibson down the middle for the longest score of the day. Maybe the most important one, too.

Tyler Orlosky, who’s likely to be selected in the upcoming NFL Draft, was present for the game. Major Harris was in attendace. Karl Joseph was even rumored to be there. This was a wonderful day for Mountaineer Nation as a whole. The next time we’ll see the ‘Eers on the gridiron, it’ll be a Sunday night treat.
