Game 6: 1975 vs. Pitt

Radio broadcaster Jack Flemming was famous for his disdain of the University of Pittsburgh. He told stories of his mother instilling in him a hatred of the Panthers from a young age. That developed into a lifestyle of anti-Pitt campaigns for Flemming. On days before the Backyard Brawl, he would be seen around campus toting a “Beat Pitt” sign.

On Nov. 8, 1975, Flemming was grinning from ear-to-ear when Bill McKenzie kicked a 38-yard field goal as time expired to lift WVU to a 17-14 win over Pitt at old Mountaineer Field on Morgantown’s downtown campus.

Pitt’s Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett was limited to just 107 yards on 22 carries.
