The West Virginia Mountaineers looked absolutely dominant on Sunday as they crushed Houston in the opening match-up of their Big 12 schedule, running away to 101-46 victory at the Hope Coliseum in Morgantown.
In the short-term, the win puts WVU on the right foot as conference play begins, and also moves the team to 11-2 overall on the season. But in the big picture, the Mountaineers broke two different program records with thier incredible performance against the Cougars on Sunday afternoon.

The history-setting performance starts with the final score, as the Mountaineers running up 101 points against Houston in a program first. Of course, it isn't a first that the program has scored 100 points in a game, thought it hadn't happened yet this year. But it does mark the only time that the Mountaineers have managed to record 100-or-more points in a conference game against a Big 12 opponent.
The victory also saw the Mountaineers explode offensively for a 39-point performance in the third quarter of play, which is another first-time milestone for the program. That quarter of basketball marks the most points West Virginia has scored in a single quarter since the sport moved from two 20-minute halves to four 10-minute quarters ahead of the 2015-2016 season.
The Mountaineers will now look to carry the momentum from their record-setting day into the rest of conference play, but they will have to wait a little while before being able to do so. They'll next take the floor on January 1, 2026 as they travel to Allen Fieldhouse for a showdown with the Kansas Jayhawks.
