The West Virginia Mountaineers secured the Big 12 Women's Basketball Tournament crown over the weekend, knocking of Arizona State, Colorado, and TCU in consecutive games to bring home their first conference tournament title since 2017.
With the trio of wins, WVU women's basketball advanced to 27-6 on the year and 13-6 against Quad 1 and Quad 2 opponents, making them one of just 13 teams in the nation to achieve 13 or more wins against such competition.
And on Monday, the Mountaineers were rewarded for their standout performance in the Big 12 Women's Basketball Tournament in the newest AP Top 25 Women's College Basketball Poll, as they leapt up three spots to No. 12 in the rankings. It is the highest they've climbed in the poll this season, as well as the highest they've been ranked since November 2024.
The Mountaineers are now the highest-ranked team in the Big 12 in the AP Poll, jumping over TCU and defeating them in Kansas City despite two earlier losses to the Horned Frogs earlier this season. Ranked just ahead of WVU is Ohio State at No 11, who the Mountaineers were defeated by in non-conference play in agame decided by just two points.
Also ranked ahead of West Virginia are the Duke Blue Devils, who climbed five spots in the poll to No. 8 after winning the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament Championship this past weekend. The Mountaineers pulled off a dominant victory over Duke in non-conference play despite only having five players available for the second half of play.
