When Matthew Graveline walked up to the plate in the ninth inning against UCF on Saturday, the Mountaineers were lucky he was even inside the ballpark at all – according to head coach Steve Sabins, Graveline was dealing with the flu and almost didn't turn out to the ballpark for the game.
WVU baseball HC Steve Sabins said Matthew Graveline almost didn't come to the field today because he was dealing with the flu.

But Graveline did make it to Kendrick Family Ballpark, dressed for the game, and found himself at the plate late in the game for the Mountaineers still trailing and needing one big at-bat to secure victory after dropping the first game of the series on Friday.
Matthew Graveline boosts West Virginia Mountaineers to win against UCF
WVU baseball trailed 10-2 at one point during Saturday's game against the Knights, and were down 10-7 entering the final inning of the contest. And with the potential first Big 12 series loss of the season looming overhead, the Mountaineers kicked it into extra gear.
They loaded the bases before a UCF error helped the Mountaineers drive two runs across home plate to narrow the score to 10-9, and then Graveline stepped up for just his second at-bat of the game. He would then knock down his second single of the game, driving home the winning runs for the Mountaineers to bring the series even through two games and forcing a rubber match for the Big 12 lead on Sunday.
The win moves the Mountaineers to 21-6 on the season, and they will look for the series win against the Knights on Sunday at Noon.
