West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene left the team's October 19th matchup with Kansas State at halftime and did not return to action, and recently missed the team's road win against Arizona as well -- backup Nicco Marchiol ended up leading the team to the 31-26 victory.
WVU head coach Neal Brown told the press on Monday that Greene was "still struggling" with the injury, which has been previously described as an upper body injury. However, rumors are circulating that there may be a little bit more to the situation.
WVU media personality "Mountaineer Paul" with Locked On West Virginia of the Locked On Podcast Network did a show on social media site X/Twitter on Wednesday where he opened discussing Greene's injury issues, including what his sources within the program have told him.
"I have been able to confirm independently, I'm pretty sure it's a concussion. No one has put that out yet, but I have spoken to several people that say it's a concussion inside the program," he said. "I was told it's a concussion. We'll see -- and listen, guys I've been told by people we know. They can still come out and deny it."
Paul also said that there are rumors from those within the program that this is not Greene's first dance with a head injury this season, and that it might have played into his slow start to the season. He was clear to also state that none of this has been confirmed to be factual, just that these are rumors that have been circulating from folks present in the program at the time.
"The word on the street is that the reason Garrett looked like he did in the first few games of the season was because of a concussion sustained during camp," Paul said. "This is not fact, I'm telling you what I've been told by someone who was there. I don't want to present this as fact without checking into it more, this is just something to chew on, I was told he hurt himself in camp."

Paul also said that there is a possibility if the rumors about multiple concussions are true, it could impact Greene's ability to return this season.
"You know the old saying with that, once you get one, it's easier to get more than one," Paul said. "I wouldn't be surprised if Garrett makes it back, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't, based on what he's being told."
Paul said that he "trust the people I talk to" and that "if I was just one step closer to Garrett with who I was talking to I would feel much better about" in regards to the veracity of the rumor, but he seems to feel pretty confident the source. A similar report was also published by an independent WVU media source in The Voice of Morgantown that seems to substantiate the rumors.
