WVU golf 'mic'd up' during fifth-place finish in Bahamas to close fall season
By Joseph Smith
West Virginia golf finished their fall season at the White Sands Collegiate at The Ocean Club in Paradise Island, Bahamas, this past week with a nine-under-par third round, a fifth-place team finish, and a top-ten individual finish for junior Kaleb Wilson.
"What a special week for us serving as host of the White Sands Collegiate at The Ocean Club," coach Sean Covich said. "Everyone in the Bahamas was amazing and made us all feel welcome. Congratulations to the College of Charleston on some incredible golf this week.
The strong final round of action would propel the team to 17-under-par overall, while Wilson finished at 9-under-par individually to secure 10th place. Senior Max Green tied for 13th place at 6-under-par while junior Westy McCabe tied for 18th place at 5-under-par. Green and fellow senior Pierce Grieve were mic’d up during their time in the Bahamas, and you can catch the footage below.
The Mountaineers will now take a break from active competition until the spring season begins, with a trip to John’s Island, South Carolina for the Battle of Briar's Creek set for February 3rd.
"We didn't play our best yet again, but some guys had bright moments,” Covich said. “We need to continue to work hard both on our golf skills and mental skills this offseason if we want to be back in consideration for the NCAA postseason. There is certainly a lot of improvement needed between now and February."
