The West Virginia Mountaineers have an issue at the running back position that Tye Edwards has shown once before that he can be a potential solution for – but he's struggling to get past a lingering hip pointer that has kept him mostly out of action since his breakout performance in the Backyard Brawl. It's clear that the injury has head coach Rich Rodriguez and WVU fans frustrated, but it's likely no one is as upset about the situation as Edwards is himself.

On Wednesday, Edwards shared a short and succinct message on his page on X, formerly known as Twitter, about his desires to simply get healthy and get back onto the gridiron – and it's clear to anyone who read his message that he really wants to get back into action sooner rather than later. But it's also clear that he might not be quite as ready to play as fans might have thought when they saw him suit up and earn carries against BYU.

"I just want to play ball man," Edwards wrote on his account, followed by a faceplam emoji and an emoji signifying hands clasped together in prayer.

There have been murmurings among West Virginia fans that Edwards might attempt to sit out the season and obtain a medical redshirt after his recent injury struggles, which were likely fueled by the fact that quarterback Nicco Marchiol plans to do that exact thing and then likely hit the transfer portal following the season. But between Edwards' message as well as him seeing limited snaps against BYU last Friday, it should be clear to the fans that he wants to get back on the field.

However, Edwards didn't look quite ready to go in his snaps against the Cougars, either. It was his first appearance since the 141-yard, three touchdown performance against Pitt which put him on many fans' radars, but he saw just two carries for two yards against BYU. His limited touches and lack of production indicate he's not yet fully healthy, and his message on X might show that last week's attempt to get him back into action was rushed and now they realize he's not quite ready. This week's bye will be crucial to getting Edwards back to full strength before the latter half of the schedule begins with a road trip to UCF.
