For a running back that didn't even crack the depth chart at the beginning of the season, WVU football redshirt freshman Diore Hubbard is doing pretty well for himself.
Hubbard didn't see any action this season until the Kansas game in Week 4, but injuries in the running back room have allowed him to earn his opportunity in the rotation, and he has made sure not to throw away his shot. Hubbard has racked up 328 yards and four scores on the ground so far this year, and has also added 153 receiving yards. And while his game in the win over Colorado may not have been his best game on the ground this season, it was probably his best game overall.
Hubbard ran for 64 yards and hauled in 94 receiving yards in the win, with the latter stat helped by the fact that he hauled in the longest reception of the year for the Mountaineers with a 69-yard reception on a wheel route that set up a touchdown pass for Scotty Fox Jr. to Ryan Ward against the Buffaloes. In total, Hubbard finished Saturday's game with 158 all-purpose yards. For his efforts against the Buffaloes, he was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week.

With the Mountaineers hurting enough in the running back room that they have called upon bandit Curtis Jones Jr. in short-yardage situations, Hubbard likely continues to have an opportunity to shine in the final two regular-season games of the year for WVU. And it's becoming clear with each game that he's a rising star that the Mountaineers will want to do their best to keep around for next season.
