Between coaching hires and the transfer portal, it can be hard to keep up with all the college football news coming our way. This news round-up touches base on a few WVU football stories you may have missed.
Two More OL Enter Transfer Portal
The news broke on Monday that the Mountaineers will lose two more offensive linemen, as Mickel Clay and Brandon Homady are entering their names into the transfer portal. Clay spent one season with the Mountaineers after transferring in last offseason from North Alabama. He will have one season of eligibility remaining. Homady was a true freshman for the Mountaineers, and will have three seasons to play. Both players saw action last year, but neither started a game for the program.
New Coaching Hire Gets Official Title
It was reported earlier this month that the Mountaineers would be hiring Larry Knight to their staff, who most recently served as the defensive ends coach at Arkansas State and brings over a decade of collegiate coaching experience. The hire was made official on Monday, and Knight was also given an official title as the edges/pass rush specialist for the Mountaineers. Currently, the Mountaineers also employ Jeff Casteel as a bandits coach and William Green as the defensive line coach.
2026 Signee Continues To Pile Up Accolades
One of the biggest signees in the 2026 signing class for the Mountaineers ended up being four-star prospect Matt Sieg, who flipped on Early National Signing Day from Penn State despite heavy competition from multiple other Power 4 programs. Sieg made headlines last week as he was named National High School Player of the Year by the Maxwell Football Club. Now, he has added another accolade under his belt as he was named the Navy All-American Bowl Player of the Year this past weekend. Sieg was recruited to play safety for the Mountaineers, but is expected to earn potential opportunities on the offensive side of the ball as well.
