The West Virginia Mountaineers have lost another wideout as the transfer portal is set to officially open in less than 36 hours.

On the tails of losing several important contributors from both sides of the ball, the Mountaineers took a huge hit at the wide receiver position as it was reported that Rodney Gallagher III plans on entering the transfer portal. The news was broken on X, formerly known as Twitter, by Hayes Fawcett of On3, and the post shared via a quote tweet by Gallagher himself with the caption "God's plan" accompanied by an emoji representing hands in prayer.

Gallagher was a multi-season starter for the Mountaineers, starting 18 games and appearing in 35 for the program. He finishes his three-season stint with WVU with 826 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns. He was a highly-touted four-star recruit in the Class of 2023 from just across the state border in Uniontown, Pa., and was ranked the 34th-best wideout and third-best overall player in the state of Pennsylvania in his recruiting class. He initially chose the Mountaineers over Penn State, Pitt, Oregon, and Michigan, among other programs.

Gallagher has been hyped by legends such as NFL Hall of Famer Darrelle Revis as a future NFL star, but did not quite live up to the expectations set for him in Morgantown. But at the same time, he provided a starting wide recevier who had a full season experience in Rich Rodriguez's offense a veteran preence entering his senior season of collegiate ball. Now, he is the second starting wide receiver to depart the program this offseason after Cam Vaughn.
