Less than 24 hours after the West Virginia Mountaineers lost one of their future defensive backs as Class of 2026 target Emari Peterson decommitted from the program, two new defensive back commits from the JUCO level have announced they will be joining the upcoming recruiting class for WVU.
On Monday, the Mountaineers landed commitments from a pair of players from Hutchinson C.C. in Florida, as Da'Mun Allen and Rayshawn Reynolds both announced their intent to play for the Mountaineers next season. Both players are ranked among the Top 15 cornerbacks at the JUCO level in the Class of 2026, according to 247Sports.

Reynolds committed first, but was shortly followed thereafter by his teammates. Reynolds, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect, is a three-star who is listed as the No. 15 overall JUCO cornerback in his class. He committed to the Mountaineers over offers from Akron, Kennesaw State, FIU, Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, and Texas State. Allen, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound three-star prospect, is the No. 4 overall JUCO cornerback in the class, and joins the Mountaineers over offers from Charlotte, Akron, Arkansas State, Marshall, and Tulsa. Both players were in Morgantown for visits this past weekend during the loss to Texas Tech.
The Mountaineers are also working hard to flip a third cornerback, as they have been heavily pursuing current Virginia Tech commit Zaevion Cleveland. Cleveland, a 6-foot-4 three-star, committed to the Hokies this summer over multiple other Power 4 offers, but has been open to the Mountaineers since the coaching change at Tech this season.
One possible motive for WVU chasing more defensive back commits and Peterson's subsequent decommitment might be a desire for more size in the cornerback room. The Mountaineers currently have just one cornerback on the roster at 6-foot-2, and two at 6-foot-1. The rest of that position group in 6-foot or under, and with three players at the position having their eligibility expire now that season is over, there will be a need to restock to room. It appears that WVU will be prioritizing size in that venture.
