In a season with as vicious of a coaching carousel as we’ve already seen, with several Power 4 coaches getting axed before Halloween, and even more coming in just the week since. And one of the perks for teams not going through a coaching change – like the West Virginia Mountaineers – of an early and chaotic cycle is that they can sneak in and attempt to flip high school prospects that have committed to a program that will now be led by a different coaching staff than the one that recruited them.
And that seems to be exactly what Rich Rodriguez and WVU football are doing as they’re chasing a pair of top Penn State commits – and doing a great job at making an impression upon them. On Friday, the news broke from Steve Wiltfong of On3 that WVU football was “gaining momentum” on a major flip in the Class of 2026, and WVU insider Josh Wolfe and other outlets covering the Mountaineers have indicated that the player in question is four-star offensive tackle prospect Kevin Brown.

Brown’s dad, Tim Brown, played for the Mountaineers before spending time with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL. Brown is ranked the sixth-best offensive tackle in the Class of 2026and second-best player in Pennsylvania in his class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Brown visited the Mountaineers during the week between WVU’s games against TCU and Houston, as reported by Joe Smith with RedditCFB. He also took a visit to Ohio State last weekend for the Buckeyes’ game against Penn State, where he is currently committed.
Can confirm that Class of 2026 4-Star OL prospect and Penn State commit Kevin Brown will be visiting WVU this week.

The Mountaineers have also reportedly in contact with another top Penn State commit in four-star prospect Matt Sieg. Sieg's spot in 247Sports' Composite Rankings don't reflect what 247Sports as an individual outlet seems to think of Sieg, as they have him ranked as the 80th-best player in the nation in the Class of 2026.
Sieg is still commited to the Nittnay Lions like Brown is, but Tom Loy of 247Sports has reported he will visit WVU on November 29 during the Texas Tech game. Sieg also told KDKA Radio that while he is still considering Notre Dame and Penn State, his top schools are Indiana, Pitt, WVU, and wherever former Penn State coach James Franklin lands his next job.
Sieg is being recruited as a safety, but their have been reports that Sieg might in discussions to potentially see offensive action with the Mountaineers as well – Sieg, who plays quarterback for Fort Cherry (PA), recently moved into second place on the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) all-time rushing list with 7,765 yards.
Per @TomLoy247 Penn State’s top commit Matt Sieg will be visiting WVU 11/29. He’s the 80th ranked player in the country per 247.
