The Mountaineers continued their recruiting tear in the Early National Signing Period on Wednesday evening as they flipped their second 4-star commit of the day from a Big Ten program, and landed their fourth overall 4-star prospect of the signing class.
This flip came in the form of Sandy Creek (Ga.) prospect Amari Latimer, who is listed as the 19th-best running back in the Class of 2026 according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Latimer was originally committed to the Wisconsin Badgers, and held offers from countless Power 4 programs including Arkansas, Auburn, Cal, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC.

Latimer's brother, Geimere Latimer, currently plays for Wisconsin and previously started at cornerback for Rich Rodriguez at Jacksonville State. Accordng to EerSports, Latimer was a late target and took an official visit to WVU last weekend before deciding to switch his commitment.
Expect Latimer to add a true big-bodied, short-yardage back to the position group for the Mountaineers, as his 5-foot-11, 225 pound frame is designed for such a role at the Power 4 level. 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins describes Latimer as a player who is "heavy behind the pads and is a true downhill force that can ram his way through contact and extend plays with his strength and balance" and that "projects as a potential workhouse for a Power 4 offense that could also thrive in a committee approach as a short-yardage mallet."
The addition of Latimer brings WVU's 2026 recruiting class to No. 25 nationally, accordin to 247Sports. Rich Rodriguez said at his press conference on Wednesday just before Latimer's commitment became official that the team is "not done yet" and expects commitments to roll into Thursday.
