WVU football dropped their third consecutive game on Friday night as they stumbled to a 38-24 loss to the No. 23 BYU Cougars in Provo, Utah. It's a game that seemed to show some improvement for the Mountaineers in certain facets of the game, but was still not sufficient enough for what WVU needs to do to be able to win games moving forward.

Mountaineer fans seem unsure of how to feel after the game against the Cougars. On one hand, it seems like a good chunk of the fan base seems to be writing off any hopes for further success for this team in 2025, and many are disgusted – or at least disappointed – with the effort being put forth by the Mountaineers. Some fans weren't even willing to stay up for a late-night game given what they saw through he first five games, and felt vindicated when they woke up to the result. And many aren't okay with the amount of time it appears this rebuild is now going to take.

But on the other hand, small improvement seem to be sparking hope for others. There are thoughts that maybe those positives can be built upon in the bye week and a banged-up team can get a bit helathier ahead of a schedule with a number of winnable games on the back-half of the schedule. Others at least see weapons than can be developed for the future and are excited by the young and talented players on the roster.

Some people are in both of these camps at once, and athletic director Wren Baker is asking the fan base to stick with the team as they build someting "special."
