The transfer portal hits keep coming for WVU football, and likely won't stop any time soon.
Since our last update on Wednesday evening, five more WVU players have announced their intent to hit the portal, including two offensive lineman with starting experience.
On Wednesday night, cornerback Ayden Garnes and offensive guard Tomas Rimac entered the portal, followed by wide receiver Ric'Darious Farmer, running back CJ Donaldson Jr, and offensive tackle Johnny Williams IV on Thursday morning.
Rimac is one of the biggest losses for the program -- he was an honorable mention all-Big 12 selection in 2024 and has started 28 games for the Mountaineers over his four-year career. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
With the loss of Rimac, WVU will now lose their entire starting offensive line from the 2024 season, with the other four starters have exhausted their collegiate eligibility. These losses will be exacerbated by the loss of Williams, a redshirt freshman who started in the absence of Milum during multiple games in 2024. He was expected to fill a starting role in 2025, as was Sullivan Weidman, a redshirt sophomore that entered the portal on Wednesday who appeared in multiple games over his career, adding depth at guard.
Donaldson is another huge hit for the Mountaineers -- he has been a critical piece of a dominant rushing offense that averaged 210.8 yards per game between 2023-2024, and has earned significant playing time in all three of his seasons on the roster. He rushed for 734 yards and 11 touchdowns this past season.
Meanwhile, Garnes marks the second departure at cornerback after TJ Crandall hit the portal before the Frisco Bowl -- both were in their first season in Morgantown after transferring in last off-season. Garnes was a redshirt junior who had previously played at FCS program Duquesne, and made six appearances for WVU in 2024 but did not make an appearance over the last seven games of the season. He and Crandall both saw significant action in 2024.
