West Virginia football has picked up their first commitment in the spring transfer portal window, as they continue to fill out their offensive line room.
According to Chris Anderson with EerSports, the Mountaineers have gained a commitment from Mickel Clay, who joins WVU with one season of eligibility remaining following a three-season stint at FCS program North Alabama, which came after starting his career at the JUCO level.
Clay brings one and a half seasons of starting experience with him to Morgantown -- after beginning his tenure at North Alabama as a backup, he took over the starting job midway through his second season and ended up starting every game at right tackle for the Lions in 2024 -- he tallied 792 snaps and earned a 77.0 grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF) for his efforts last fall.

Clay joins a crowded offensive line room that hasn't seen much turnover yet in the spring portal -- he will be the fifth player with just one season of eligibility remaining along the offensive line this upcoming season, which indicates he is likely joining the program with expectations of earning some significant playing time this upcoming season.
The question remains to be answered as to who might be bumped from the potential starting lineup this fall if Clay does earn a starting role -- Clay and additional incoming transfer from the winter portal window Will Reed, each have one season left to play, as do three winter transfers who were on campus for spring football -- Kimo Maka'neole, Ty'kieast Crawford, and Walter Young Bear.
Each of those three seniors was starting along the offensive line during the Spring Showcase, in addition to returning redshirt junior Landen Livingston and redshirt sophomore Nick Krahe. Livingston took first team reps at center most of the spring, which is an important spot to solidify early -- but if he stays there, at least one senior with just one season to play will be left out of the starting lineup.
