West Virginia Head Coach Rich Rodriguez confirmed Thursday he was losing a member of his first staff in Morgantown before spring practices even begin.
The rumors broke on Wednesday that WVU football's Chad Scott, who served as Running Backs Coach under former Head Coach Neal Brown and had been rehired to serve on new Head Coach Rich Rodriguez's staff in the same position, would be departing the program to take a job with SEC blue blood program Texas. He also served as the Interim Head Coach at the 2024 Frisco Bowl after Brown's termination.
"I lost a coach yesterday with Chad," Rodriguez mentioned offhandedly while answering a question.

The position opened after former Texas Running Backs Coach Tashard Choice left the program for a role on staff with the NFL's Detroit Lions. In Scott, the Longhorns replace him with an assistant consistently regarded as one of the brightest rising stars in collegiate football.
Scott helped anchor a rushing offense for the Mountaineers that led the program to a Top 10 Power 4 rushing attack over the past two seasons -- the team averaged over 210 rushing yards per game during that two-year stretch.
Scott also played a role in the development of now-Ohio State running back CJ Donaldson Jr., who spent three seasons in Morgantown and accumulated 2,058 career rushing yards and 30 touchdowns over that stint.
"I think he'll do well down there with [Texas HC Steve Sarkisian]," Rodriguez told the media.
Scott may be able to bring with him the other highly touted piece of the two-man rushing attack that paced the Mountaineers in Jahiem White, who will be a junior this fall. White rushed for 1,687 yards and 11 touchdowns through the past two seasons while also adding 247 receiving yard and three receiving touchdowns as well.
Rodriguez will now likely look the replace the role vacated by Scott, and alluded at his Thursday press conference that a number of coaches in the industry have inquired about the gig.
