There was a lot of hype entering this season surrounding incoming WVU basketball transfer Treysen Eaglestaff.

Eaglestaff is a North Dakota native who transferred to the Mountaineers this season from North Dakota Fighting Hawks after averaging 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists last season, including registering two 50+ point performances on the season. He entered as a four-star transfer, and was viewed as a massive acquisition for head coach Ross Hodge entering his first season leading the program.

Eaglestaff finding rhythm after slow start to season for the Mountaineers

Eaglestaff has been a consistent starter this season for West Virginia, but in many fans eyes, his performance thus far has left a bit to be desired, eclipsing the 20-point mark just three times in non-conference play and failing to score double digits in back-to-back games at any point before Big 12 action began. He is shooting 33 percent from three-point range and averaging just over nine points per game this year – the former of which is a career low, and the latter of which is his lowest since his freshman season.

But during Big 12 play, Eaglestaff has come to life a bit more, shooting over 42 percent from three-point range and scoring 10-or-more points in three of his last four outings. That improved confidence was on display once more in Saturday's win over Colorado, where Eaglestaff had his third-best scoring effort this season with 22 points, while adding six rebounds and three assists in the win.

After the game, Ross Hodge acknowledged that the senior guard has begun to found his groove for the Mountaineers, while sharing a ton of praise for Eaglestaff's atttitude and mentality.

"His heart's always been in the right place. He's always been a hard worker. He loves this place. He loves this state. He wants to do well, and he's starting to settle in," Hodge said.

After the win over the Buffaloes, the Mountaineers are 12-6 overall and 3-2 in league play, and are still right in the thick of the hunt for the league conference title and a postseason bid. And if the Mountaineers want to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three seasons, it will go a long way to have Eaglestaff firing on all cylinders.
