The West Virginia Mountaineers did not have a fun weekend at the Charleston Classic.
WVU basketball entered this weekend 5-0 on the season and looking forward to the opportunity to potentially boost their resume with a pair of Power 5 wins. Instead, they are walking away from the trip to South Carolina with more questions than they had to begin the trip, and a pair of losses that will serve as a blemish on the season.
The Mountaineers were felled by Xavier 78-68 on Sunday behind the Musketeers' explosive three-point shooting performance that saw them convert 16 buckets from behind-the-arc in the win. Combined with a second-half collapse and loss to Clemson on Friday night, it creates an unfortunate situation for West Virginia to have to rebound from in the middle of their non-conference schedule.
WVU fans were partially in disbelief and partially consumed by their pessimistic outlook following the game. It's not often you'll see a team have sch an incredible three-point shooting performance against your squad, though West Virginia fans have seen it before. So while some fans were coping with that abnormal stat, others were voicing their concerns about the team's overall performance and what it could mean for the rest of their season. Many were just grieving after two very difficult losses in winnable games over the course of three days.
With more basketball to play, although not until next Sunday, the Mountaineers will have to take some lessons from the loss and try to turn things around. Check out how the WVU fan base is handling the loss below, and let us know how you're feeling after the disappointing outcome on Sunday.
sometimes you will simply lose a game because the other team turns the "made three pointers" slider to max

Guarding wide open shooters. Tougher than a long weekend at your in-laws.#HailWV pic.twitter.com/iSqZKhUKCn

Lost to a team who got their teeth kicked in by SANTA CLARA

We've reached the "WVU's opponent makes every three it takes" part of the game

Death, taxes, Missed free throws and other teams having career shooting days against WVU. Life’s constant cycle

I HATE losing man…

Genuinely makes me sick to my stomach.
If we miss the tournament because Clemson pulled a rabbit out of the hat in the final two minutes and because Xavier went 16-25 from 3 and 100% from the FT line….

Yeah I’m a bit more annoyed with this one.

Gonna be a long week of practice. #WVU
It’s almost impossible to beat a team who shoots the ball this well unless you can match them. Biggest concern: Xavier is getting too many clean looks.

Honestly? Will end up being a pretty bad loss for WVU
— Ethan Bock (@ethanbock_) November 23, 2025
Xavier beat Le Moyne and Marist by a combined 9 points… Santa Clara was up 30 on them too
X shot 16/25 from 3… lots to fix on D. Least Eaglestaff looks better on O
