The WVU men's basketball team had its sixth consecutive win to start the season in its hands against Clemson in the opening round of the Palmetto Bracket in the Charleston Classic, but they couldn't hold onto a halftime lead and eventually fell to a Clemson rally in a 68-67 loss that the program likely won't shake from it's memory any time soon, particularly if they once again end up a bubble team come NCAA Tournament season.

The Mountaineers gave up a lead in the second half that was once as large as 11 points, and they had plenty of opportunities to score those few points they needed to earn a win – whether it be missed free throws, a wasted three-point shot that ended in an airball when WVU needed two points to tie the game in the waning seconds, or a late-game dunk with just 1.2 seconds on the clock when the Mountaineers needed three points, not just two, to tie the game, with a wide-open shooter on the wing. Why didn't the Mountaineers call a timeout on that last one? They had one available, but for whatever reason, it wasn't used.

These are mistakes and missed opportunities that will serve as lessons when the Mountaineers end up in similar games down the stretch this season, because one thing this team did prove is that they can be competitors against talented Power 5 competition. But fans still are walking away frustrated from the tough-to-swallow loss after they saw the team's sixth win of the season disappear in front of their very eyes.

On social media, these emotions were evident, as fans reacted with distaste and exasperation for the loss. Some were just upset at giving up a loss when the game was clearly in hand, while others weren't fans of Ross Hodge's coaching decisions. Many were in disbelief at some of the missed opportunities and poor decisions on the floor, and some are always thinking about repercussions come Selection Sunday in March. And many were just resigned to another unlucky WVU ending in a coach's "welcome to West Virginia" moment. Some may have reacted a bit harshly, but it was a tough loss.

Take a look below at some of the most disappointed reactions and the hottest takes from the fanbase – both reasonable and not-so-reasonable – and let us know how you're feeling following the heartbreaking defeat to the Clemson Tigers.
