WVU baseball continues to restock their pitching staff after an otherwise successful season was often defined by struggles on the mound.

The Mountaineers recently gained a commitment from a former SEC left-handed pitcher in Tennessee's Bryson Thacker, who will be making the trek to from Knoxville to Morgantown to join WVU. With Thacker, the Mountaineers gain a young talent with multiple years of eligibility remaining and experience in the toughest baseball conference at the collegiate level -- the SEC qualified a record 13 teams for this past season's NCAA Tournament, with the Volunteers among the Top 16 overall seeds.

Thacker did see some action for Tennessee this past season, although it was very limited -- the Rome, Ga. native made five total appearances for the Volunteers this past year as a redshirt freshman, pitching 4.1 innings. In that small sample size of action, Thacker seemed pretty efficient -- he delivered seven strikeouts while allowing just one hit and one run.

Thacker joins a large transfer portal class for the Mountaineers which has given plenty of attention to rectifying the team's struggles on the mound. WVU has already added a trio of Division 2 transfers at the position in Chansen Cole, Dawson Montesa, and Ian Korn -- the latter of whom was named the Division 2 National Pitcher of the Year for Seton Hill. The Mountaineers have also secured a commitment from FIU transfer pitcher Owen Puk.

The rebuild of the team's pitching staff comes as West Virginia loses ten pitchers to graduation and the transfer portal, including all three consistent weekend series starters in Griffin Kirn, Jack Kartsonas, and Gavin Van Kempen.
