The West Virginia Mountaineers made a lot of moves this offseason in order to replenish a roster that has just one returning player who garnered any sort of experience on the court last year. They signed an impressive high school class and brought in a large portal haul filled with starting Power 5 experience, and were at one point named one of the big winners this offseason in Divison 1.
But at the time, once the roster was wrapped up, many people noticed that there was still an open spot on the roster that could be filled, if head coach Ross Hodge decided that was a move that he wanted to make.
Many expected it to be an opening for a potential returning player who might end up with additional eligibility, such as Brenen Lorient. And while that question has not yet gotten an answer, Hodge has finally addressed the opening spot.
Ross Hodge looking to add another player to the roster
When speaking with media on Thursday, Ross Hodge was asked about the roster opening and potentially adding another player, and it turns out that there may be a plan to fill that spot after all. Hodge disclosed that he is looking to add another player to the roster, and that he is looking for the best available talent at this point.

It is possible this issue is being compounded by the fact that the Mountaineers might not have one piece of the roster they were expecting to have, as Hodge also announced that transfer Javan Buchanan's eligibility waiver was denied, and he will have to seek an injunction through the courts to be eligible to play this year. So now, there may be two roster spots open, and Hodge could end up down a starter.
