The weather was nice in Morgantown on Saturday -- and the tailgating may have even been fun -- but the result of the action on the gridiron may be the most heartbreaking yet of the season for West Virginia football.

In a matchup that was never truly close, the Mountaineers hosted No. 17 Kansas State for homecoming and watched their starting quarterback, starting running back, and starting left tackle leave the game with injuries as the offense stalled all evening and the defense collapsed late in an embarrassing 45-18 loss.

"They just took it to us in the second half," head coach Neal Brown said.

For the second week in a row, the Mountaineers turned the ball over twice and failed to find rhythm offensively. Despite dominating time of possession, WVU was outgained by over 100 yards and gave up over 400 yards in total to the Kansas State offense.

The loss moves WVU to 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in Big 12 play, heavily hampering any opportunity WVU has to make a conference championship appearance. The loss moves the program to 3-17 against ranked programs during Neal Brown’s tenure.
