Former Texas A&M quarterback Jaylen Henderson announced on Saturday that he has committed to West Virginia football.
Henderson was a three-star recruit who played two seasons at Texas A&M following a two-year stint at Fresno State. He saw limited action at Fresno, but started the final four games of the season and went 53-of-78 passing for 715 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions in 2023 for then-coach Jimbo Fisher before dropping to the bottom of the depth chart with injury issues under A&M's new coach Mike Elko in 2024. He also was a bit of a dual-threat, adding 104 yards and 2 touchdowns during that same season.
Henderson will have two years of eligibility remaining if he utilized a medical redshirt this past season, but otherwise has one year of eligibility left. This means he is being brought in to compete for the starting job, most likely, which has been presumed to be a role filled by two-year WVU backup Nicco Marchiol, who has announced his return to the program. It appears there will be a serious quarterback battle in Morgantown this offseason.
