West Virginia football has lost another pair of players to the transfer portal -- one a crucial starter on offense, another a highly touted Class of 2024 recruit who used his redshirt this past season.
The offensive starter is wide receiver Hudson Clement, a redshirt sophomore with two years of eligibility remaining. Clement is a former walk-on that earned a scholarship following a breakout performance in 2023 and became the leading target for WVU this season, hauling in 51 catches for 741 yards and 5 touchdowns to finish as the team leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. It wasannouncedby Pete Nakos ofOn3on Friday that Clement is entering the portal, though it was not made clear whether he is open to returning or not.
Late Thursday, a WVU defender who redshirted as a freshman this past season also hit the portal as Schyler Callihan ofWest Virginia on SIbroke the newsthat EDGE Obinna Onwuka will hit the portal -- Onwuka held multiple Power 4 offers, including from WVU rivals Penn State and Virginia Tech, and has four years of eligibility remaining. However, Onwuka noted that he is open to potentially returning to the program.
