The Terry Crawford Program of the Year Award rankings, issued annually by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association to rank the combined efforts of Division 1 cross country and track and field programs, has been released -- and the West Virginia Mountaineers have been honored for an impressive effort during the 2024-2025 campaign.
The Mountaineers found themselves ranked ninth in the nation for their performance as a program this year -- team's must qualify for all three NCAA championships (cross country, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field) to qualify for the rankings, with scoring based upon the team's points earned at each championship.
"For our group to have received this ninth-place ranking shows how incredibly consistent that we have been all year," said WVU coach Sean Cleary. "I am very proud of this team and in awe of the level of performance that they have delivered throughout the past 10 months."
The Mountaineers were propelled to the Top 10 in part due to an extremely successful cross country season that saw them take second-place as a team at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The Mountaineers were also able to take home the 23rd spot as a team at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, fueled by Ceili McCabe's individual NCAA Championship in the women's 3,000 meter run, and the 24th spot as a team at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships fueld by Top 6 finishes from Sarah Tait and Joy Naukot.
