Basketball season is never truly over in a city like Morgantown, and there has been plenty of news regarding the men’s basketball and women’s basketball programs at West Virginia. Here’s a look at some WVU basketball news you may have missed.

J.J. Quinerly Introduced In Dallas

This past Wednesday, the Dallas Wings of the WNBA held a press conference to introduce their 2025 Draft Class to the media and fans -- including recent West Virginia graduate J.J. Quinerly, who was a central piece of a WVU women's basketball team that has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons.

Quinerly was the 11th Mountaineer to be drafted in program history and the only Mountaineer to finish her career with 2,000+ points and 300+ rebounds, steals and assists. She was also named an All-American this past season for West Virginia women's basketball, and All-Big 12 selection and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in both 2023-23 and 2024-25 -- and her love for defense earned some cheers for the crowd when she highlighted it during the introductory presser.

“I love defense,” Quinerly said. “I love just creating havoc on that side of the ball, so I’m definitely going to do that.”

Recent Basketball Star Gets First Coaching Gig

Just a couple of months ago, Joseph Yesufu was playing out his final season of college eligibility with West Virginia men's basketball. Now the former Mountaineer will be turning in his basketball uniform for clipboard and a suit as he begins to make the transition to coaching.

Campbell University recently hired John Andrzejek -- a former ESPN '40 Under 40 selection' -- to helm their basketball program, the first head coaching opportunity for the rising star. Jeff Goodman of Field of 68 reported last week that Andrzejek is hiring Yesufu as an assistant.

Yesufu spent one season in Morgantown, averaging 6.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game last season for WVU men's basketball. Before joining the Mountaineers, Yesufu played for former WVU head coach Darian DeVries at Drake and also helped Kansas to the 2022 National Championship

New Men's Basketball Staffers Hired

In addition to the transfer portal moves already made by new West Virginia men's basketball coach Ross Hodge, he has also begun to build his first staff as he prepares to lead the Mountaineers.

So far, the program has officially brought in five staffers to help Hodge build the program in his image. Below, you can find a list of all the recently hired staffers, their new position with WVU men's basketball, and the school they are coming from.
