After a home loss to Arizona and a road win over Colorado this past week, the West Virginia men's basketball team has found themselves on the outside looking in as the latest edition of the AP Top 25 Men's College Basketball Poll released on Monday. WVU drops from the poll after earning their first ranking of the season last week, coming in at No, 21 in that edition of the poll.
The Mountaineers earned 61 votes in the latest poll, which was not enough to crack the Top 25 but has them sitting 28th out of 39 teams that received votes. The Mountaineers saw 4 teams in the Big 12 Conference make the Top 25 ahead of them -- Iowa State, Kansas (who WVU defeated on New Year's Eve), Houston, and Baylor. Gonzaga, who the Mountaineers beat in The Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in November, also find themselves still ranked.
The Mountaineers next two opponents, Houston and Iowa State, each find themselves entering their coming battles with WVI ranked inside the Top 10 -- the Cougars sit at No. 10, while the Cyclones are No. 2. The Mountaineers already have two Top 10 wins this season over Gonzaga and Kansas.
