That mad lad Darian DeVries has done it again.
Despite being in his first year as Head Coach at West Virginia and operating with a fully rebuilt roster that has suffered numerous injury issues, DeVries has led the Mountaineers to early success this season, with major upset wins over Gonzaga in November and Kansas just last Tuesday.
Now, fresh off the Kansas win and another over Oklahoma State, West Virginia has moved to 11-2 overall and DeVries has earned another accomplishment for the Mountaineers as they find themselves ranked at No. 21 in the newest edition of the AP Top 25 Men's College Basketball Poll. It is their first appearance in the Top 25 all season. The Mountaineers were also ranked at No. 23 in the newest USA Today Coach's Poll.
The Mountaineers are the last-ranked of 4 Big 12 teams in the poll, with, Iowa State (No. 3), Kansas (No. 11), and Houston (No. 12) ranked above them. WVU is set for action with Arizona in Big 12 play on Tuesday, in what will be the two team's second meeting this season -- the Wildcats received 3 votes in the poll, but did not crack the Top 25. However, Arizona has been ranked previously this season, holding a spot in the Top 25 when they lost to the Mountaineers in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in November.
