West Virginia baseball is in the midst of a baseball season that might go down as legendary.
The Mountaineers have lost just five games on the season, and completed a fourth consecutive series sweep over the weekend to extend their current Big 12 winning streak to 14 games. Now, the latest set of weekly college baseball rankings have been released, and WVU baseball is getting some serious attention.
College baseball differs from basketball and football, where there are typically just a couple of polls used to rank teams -- baseball will typically have multiple sets of independent rankings that receive equal attention, though the poll offered by D1Baseball is the only officially recognized poll by the NCAA.
The Mountaineers find themselves ranked the highest in the poll offered by scouting service Perfect Game, sitting at No. 4 in this week's edition. It's the first Top 5 appearance in a poll this season by West Virginia baseball.

The Mountaineers also landed another pair of Top 10 appearances this week in polls done by Baseball America and National College Baseball Writer's of America (NCBWA). They were eighth and tenth in those polls respectively
WVU baseball showed up in 16th in the D1Baseball poll this week, jumping one spot from last week's edition of the rankings. The Mountaineers were also ranked no lower than 18th in any of the six major polls this week.
The team's strong showing in the polls came after a strong 3-1 week that saw the Mountaineers drop a closely fought contest on the road against a Power 4 opponent and regional non-conference rival in Penn State, but bounce back to complete the aforementioned sweep. Now, the Mountaineers will look ahead to Wednesday, where they will attempt to complete a clean sweep in their season series with in-state rival Marshall.
The Mountaineers defeated the Thundering Herd twice already at both Kendrick Family Ballpark in Morgantown and Jack Cook Field in Huntington -- the pair will meet in a neutral site contest on Wednesday at GoMart Ballpark in the capital city of Charleston, with action set for 6 p.m. EST.
