West Virginia continues to add to it's running back room via the transfer portal this spring.
After adding SMU transfer Jaylan Knighton a few days ago, the Mountaineers earned a commitment from another transfer running back on Thursday as Ferris State running back Kannon Katzer will be taking his talents to Morgantown.
Thank you to all the coaches who have built relationships with me and recruited me. With that being said blessed to announce my commit too @WVUfootball pic.twitter.com/zdOAygLHZI

Katzer started his career at Washington State as a preferred walk-on, and saw limited action over his first few seasons with the Cougars before stepping down to the Division 2 level. At Ferris State, Katzer had a massive season in 2024 -- he finished the season ranked 16th nationally in D2 in rushing yards, tallying 1,128 yards and 11 touchdowns on just 128 carries.
Katzer was massive for the Bulldogs when it counted, too -- during the NCAA Playoffs last season, he managed a 200-yard, three touchdown performance against Central Oklahoma where he averaged over 16 yards per carry, and a 165-yard, one touchdown effort in the semifinals against Slippery Rock where he averaged over 12 yards per carry. The Bulldogs went on to capture the Division 2 National Championship.
Katzer is the second Division 2 running back to transfer into WVU under Rich Rodriguez since December, but the other is no longer with the team. LJ Turner, who began his career at D2 Catawba, joined the program in the winter portal window but re-entered the transfer portal after spring practices.
Katzer will join SMU transfer Knighton in joining a running back room that already has three returning Mountaineers from 2024 (Jahiem White, Diore Hubbard, and Clay Ash) and another transfer added in the winter (Tye Edwards).
