The West Virginia Mountaineers are undefeated through three games for the first time in a decade afterupsetting No. 25 Virginiain Charlotte on Saturday night. And now, the college football world is waking up to the talent West Virginia has.
Some of the people waking up to the Mountaineers seem to include the Vegas oddsmakers, according to the opening odds that have been released for Week 4. The Mountaineers will return to Milan Puskar Stadium to host the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12 opener for both teams, and after entering the Virginia game as double-digit underdogs, it appears the tides have turned for WVU football.
West Virginia opens as slight favorites against the Oklahoma State Cowboys
The Mountaineershave opened as 1.5-point favoritesagainst the Cowboys this coming week, and it's got to feel good for the Mountaineers to open against a Big 12 team as favorites after playing the underdog role so often last year.
The game between the Cowboys and the Mountaineers has looked like a true toss-up game for awhile now, with the two teams pinpointed in the offseason as the potential Big 12 teams that ould stage the biggest turnarounds from their disappointing seasons last year.
That plan got a little sidetracked for Oklahoma State after a Week 1 road loss to Group of 6 opponent Tulsa in Week 1, but they bounced back strong last week with a shocking upset win over top 25 opponent Oregon. After an FCS win this past week, they will enter the game against West Virginia 2-1.
The over/under is currently set 60.5 points, which is another refreshing sign fo West Virginia fans accustomed to an offense that didn't do much scoring last year. But with an NFL-caliber quarterback in Drew Mestemaker on Oklahoma's State's offense, and West Virginia coming off a 38-point offensive performance, it's no surprise the oddsmakers are expecting lots of points here.
