The West Virginia Mountaineers are head to the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, and this time they will be hosting during opening weekend.

The Mountaineers already entered Sunday knowing they were set to host tournament action at Hope Coliseum, but got to learn their full path in the tournament on Sunday. Per usual, the team hosted a watch party, with several fans in attendance as well.

And when the Mountaineers saw their name accompanied by a No. 4 seed and their first-round opponent pop up with Morgantown officially listed as the host site, you could see their excitement in their reaction as they – along with the fans – celebrated vigorously.

A new addition this year in addition to heading into Selection Sunday as a host site was that the Mountaineers had some hardware to bring along for the show. The Mountaineers had their 2026 Big 12 Tournament Championship trophy on display after knocking off TCU to win the title last Sunday – creating the perfect centerpiece for a thrilling Selection Sunday.

The Mountaineers learned they will be squaring off with the No. 13 seed Miami (Ohio) RedHawks, who won the MAC Championship to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament after winning 24 of their final 27 games on the season. With a win, West Virginia will have a second home game in the postseason as they will face the winner of No. 5 Kentucky and No. 12 James Madison.

The Mountaineers are 44-5 at Hope Coliseum under head coach Mark Kellogg. The opening round games will take place Saturday, March 21, with tickets going on sale at 10 AM on Monday morning.
