West Virginia football kicked off their slate of spring football practices on Tuesday, February 25th.
The Mountaineers will partake in 15 spring practice sessions, including the 2025 Gold-Blue Showcase that will conclude the spring season on April 5th. This set of spring practices is the first time the program will be on the gridiron underneath the leadership of Rich Rodriguez since he began his second tenure leading WVU football in December.
The WVU football team shared a couple of glimpses into the first day of spring practice on social media, which you can check out below.

At a post-practice press conference on Tuesday, Rodriguez discussed how he thought the first practice went.
“I think that the intent was good, and they worked pretty hard," Rodriguez said. “We were still feeling our way, you know, the first practice, getting the timing down -- but I liked the effort from back where I was seeing it.”
For Rodriguez, the first few practices carry a heavier-than-usual emphasis on the process of evaluation as he inherits a new program with a roster that was largely built through transfer portal additions.
“They’re all new to us, because we're a new staff," Rodriguez said. "But like I said, there are one or two full-time returning starters. There is a whole lot of newness, I guess. A whole lot of evaluations going on. Athletically I think we’re okay, but there are still some spots that I think we’ve got to answer through the spring and the next portal period."
