West Virginia men's basketball senior wing and incoming transfer Tucker DeVries is looking to make some noise during his first -- and only -- season in the old-gold-and-blue.
DeVries is following his dad -- new WVU Head Coach Darian DeVries -- to Morgantown to have his first crack at playing Power 4 basketball, and he is being looked at by plenty as a potential standout star natinally this winter.
The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame released their preseason watch list for the Julius Erving Award on Wednesday, which annually honors the top small forward in college basketball. Also released on Wednesday was the preseason watchlist for the Naismith Trophy Men's College Player of the Year, awarded by the Atlanta Tipoff Club each season to the best player in college basketball.
DeVries found himself on both watch lists, garnering some serious attention for the senior forward as he enters his final season of collegiate eligibiltiy. DeVries previously has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons while playing for his father at Drake, averaging 21.6 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, and 3.7 assists per game to win the award last season while leading the Bulldogs to an NCAA Tournament appearance.
WVU women's basketball senior J.J. Quinerly was also named to the women's Naismith Award watch list this week.
