After getting benched after a slow start in his first-ever start last week against UCF, WVU football true freshman quarterback Scotty Fox Jr. got his second consecutive start in the Mountaineers' 23-17 loss to TCU, on Saturday, and he looked much better than in his last performance. Fox commanded the offense with confidence, going 28-of-41 with 301 passing yards and two touchdowns.
After the game, TCU head coach Sonny Dykes was asked his opinion on Fox's performance, and his answer shows that he was very impressed with the performance put forth by the young gunslinger
"Scotty played lights out," Dykes said. "I mean, gutty, throw some incredible deep balls. That last deep ball touchdown he threw, you can't throw it any better than that."

Another facet of Fox's game which Dykes highlighted in particular was his ability to take care of the ball, which he believed was critical in keeping the game close and allowing the Mountaineers to stay in the contest until the final whistle blew.
"The most impressive thing, obviously, for a true freshman is they took care of the ball, didn't turn the ball. I think that gave them an opportunity to have a chance to win, the fact that they didn't turn it over. For a young player, he played exceptional."
Dykes is a veteran coach who has competed for a National Championship with TCU and is currently coaching a talented start quarterback in Josh Hoover, so him having such a high opinion of Fox in the true freshman's second start bodes well for the young signal caller's future. Fox's own coach, Rich Rodriguez, also signaled his pleasure with how Fox handled the game.
"He made some nice throws. There was some freshman stuff that was out there, but he’s a true freshman. The kid battled and competed," Rodriguez said.
