Rich Rodriguez won't be happy about it, but he has to hit the assistant coaching carousel once more this offseason to find a new addition to his staff.
Earlier this offseason, the West Virginia Mountaineers lost one assistant coach to an SEC program as running backs coach Larry Porter departed for Auburn. Now, WVU football will see another assistant coach depart the program to head down south and join the premier conference in college football.
Larry Knight set to leave the Mountaineers for a recent National Championship-winning program
Knight, who was named the pass rush specialist for the Mountaineers earlier this offseason, is now being targeted by the Georgia Bulldogs as the program's outside linebackers coach. The move comes after former Georgia assistant Chidera Uzo-Diribe left the same role to take a job with the Dallas Cowboys.

Worked at Arkansas State as the defensive ends coach and run game coordinator in 2025. Previously at Temple. https://t.co/6KeXOwEHOR pic.twitter.com/cXkqrYLbvZ
Knight was brought on board by the Mountaineers in January after serving with Arkansas State last season as the defensive run game coordinator and defensive ends coach. He has over a decade of collegiate coaching experience – he has previously coached in the SEC during a stint with Tennessee, and in the Peach State with stops at both Georgia Tech and Georgia State. Other prior stops for Knight include Temple and Cincinnati.
The Mountaineers recently saw bandits coach Jeff Casteel announce his retirement, leaving William Green as the only defensive line coach with the program other than Knight. So with the move, it's likely that the Mountaineers will look to replace Knight with someone who can fill a similar role on the staff.
