The West Virginia Mountaineers have put a lot of hard work over the past few months into building a formidable recruiting class, both at the high school level and in the transfer portal. Now, with the work mostly done, WVU's roster looks completely different than it did last season.
The Mountaineers had already garnered some significant national attention for their big offseason, and they're continuing to earn acclaim for their efforts on the recruiting trail. And the latest milestone Ross Hodge has hit with his recruiting class has made a major statement for the Mountaineers.
West Virginia basketball finishes offseason with Top 10 recruiting haul
The final recruiting rankings for 247Sports have dropped, and with them a pair of WVU's high school prospects – Miles Sadler and Amadou Seini – have made tremendous leaps in the high school rankings. In addition to their highly-touted portal class, this has helped secure an elite offseason haul for the Mountaineers.
In the rankings combining both the high school and portal class, 247Sports now has West Virginia listed as the tenth-best class in Division 1 basketball, with the 13th-best high school class and 16th-best college class in the country

WVU is ranked:
13th in HS recruiting
16th in Portal recruiting
TENTH in the overall rankings
Those rankings aren’t out of the Big 12 teams. That’s in all of D1🏀!

This is a huge win for the Mountaineers before Hodge and his new-look team even get to the upcoming season, as it helps prove that the Mountaineers have not assembled another average roster like fans are used to seeing for West Virginia – this team has the potential to be special.
That's because this time, the Mountaineers have went out and done their best to secure a roster that is as talented as some of the elite programs in the country, and that is the first step to Hodge helping WVU get back to the level of relevance they experienced as a program underneath John Beilein and Bob Huggins.
There will be a lot of young pieces to this team, so maybe it's best to temper expectations of a Big 12 Championship or a deep NCAA Tournament run. But these rankings help show that the Mountaineers have the skill to compete with the best teams in college basketball, and that should elevate the program's ceiling much higher than it was last season.
