There has to be little doubt at this point that West Virginia head basketball coach Ross Hodge knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to recruiting.
It was already pretty clear he knew how to put together a talented roster in the modern era of college basketball as he landed highly-touted classes both at the prep level and in the transfer portal, putting together an offseason haul rated among the best in the sport. And as he continues to pursue talent in future recruiting classes, it's clear he's not quite done impressing us all.
West Virginia Mountaineers in hot pursuit of several elite 2027, 2028 recruiting prospects
We've already talked previously about some of the massive targets that the Mountaineers are connected to in the 2027 class, but college basketball recruiting is quite fluid, and there are always going to be new names to keep an eye on. The Mountaineers recently scheduled a visit for September with a recent rising name in Justin Frison.

Frison is a four-star prospect, currently listed as one of the Top 150 players in his class and the second-best prospect in Tennessee, according to 247Sports. He has bolstered his reputation significantly this summer on the Nike EYBL grassroots circuit, where he averaged 15 points, 6.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists per game in Session II, and 18 points and 7 assists per contest while shooting 50 percent from 3-point range in Session III. He currently leads the league in assists.
The Mountaineers have also worked hard in the 2028 class, establishing connection with multiple top players – they have currently extended 11 offers to players who were ranked in the latest 247Sports Class of 2028 Top 125.
The most prominent is Kevin Wheatley Jr., the 30th-best player in the class, and Liam Mitakaro, who is the 34th-best player in the class. Mitakaro already has an established tie with the program, playing for Bella Vista Prep – the same program where current West Virginia players Miles Sadler, Aliou Dioum, Amadou Seini, and Mouhamed Sylla all played prep ball.
As Hodge repeatedly garners interest from the top targets in college basketball, things are looking bright for the future of the Mountaineers. And while we won't have a definitive answer for it appears the program may finally have a coach with the ability to attract elite talent to Morgantown with consistency.
