The West Virginia Mountaineers will face the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday, and the game will be an opportunity for one former Mountaineer to return to Milan Puskar Stadium and play in front of his friends and family.

After spending three seasons with West Virginia, Rodney Gallagher III transferred to Arizona. Initially a four-star recruit from Uniontown, Pa. – a city just 30 minutes from Morgantown – Gallagher will get a chance to return to where his collegiate career began and help the Wildcats deliver West Virginia their third straight defeat.

Rodney Gallagher has prime opportunity to step in a massive role for Arizona this week

Gallagher never found too much success for the Mountaineers – despite being a critical piece of the rotation over the past two years, he accumulated just 605 receiving yards, 221 rushing yards, and three touchdowns over the course of 35 games with West Virginia. Thisyear, he's recorded just 10 receptions for 66 yards through five games.

But Arizona does have a standout quarterback in Noah Fifita, and their three starting wide receivers are all set to miss the game due to injuries. So there will be plenty of opportunities for Gallagher to see action this coming week, and he will certainly be among the team's targets in the passing game.

He's shown flashes of potential during his collegiate career, but he never had a truly exceptional performance during his time with the Mountaineers, and it hasn't come this year, either. But fans will want to keep an eye on the former West Virginia player this week as he returns home – because he has the perfect opportunity for a breakout game in front of his friends, family, and former team this week.
