Rick Trickett makes major impression on top 2028 OL prospect for WVU football

The West Virginia Mountaineers struggled in a lot of places this past season on the gridiron, but the general consensus among most was that the team performed the worst along the offensive line. The Mountaineers put forth one of it's worst efforts along the offensive line in recent memory, and it played a significant role in the team only being able to secure four wins last year.

So head coach Rich Rodriguez made a concerted effort this offseason to fix that problem. He addressed it in his high school recruiting class with top prospect Kevin Brown. He addressed it in the transfer portal by bringing in an entire offensive line worth of FBS starters from last season.

But it wasn't just on the recruiting trail where he addressed the issue, as he also took a step to fix the problem by reuniting with his long-time offensive line coach Rick Trickett, who previously coached with him at West Virginia. And that's already having a positive affect on the talent the program is able to attract in the trenches.

Recently, one talented 2028 offensive line prospect, Thatcher Trotter, attended a summer camp at West Virginia and left quite impressed by his time with Trickett. Thatcher reportedly enjoyed "Coach Trickett's intensity and the way he held us to a high standard," and left Morgantown with plans to return for another visit.

It is a good example of what Trickett's presence offers the program that may have not been present last season. It's clear that the veteran coach still us able to connect with linemen on the field, and that seems to be attractive to future top talent. And all of the talk of "intensity" in conjunction with Trickett's name could be good news for the Mountaineers on the field after the team lacked in that department last year.
